Welcome to Hanover! When you finish your unpacking and are ready to explore the town add these items to your “to do” list.
1. First, subscribe to our local newspaper, the Hanover Mariner, a weekly paper with all the news you need to know for the town of Hanover. Go to www.wickedlocal.com/hanover to subscribe. 2. Join The Hanover Newcomers’ Club. A great way to meet other women and families in town and we have lots of fun together too! 3. Register your car, etc. at The Registry of Motor Vehicles in Plymouth. Do this on a weekday if you can. http://www.mass.gov/qrmv/plymouth.shtm 4. Make a stop at Town Hall to register to vote and pick up a library card at the John Curtis Free Library (next to the Town Hall). 5. Don’t forget the Transfer Station. Trash pick up in Hanover is done by private companies only so you will need to bring your trash, recyclables, old clothing and books to the Transfer Station on Route 139 across from the Police Station. The transfer station is open Friday through Tuesday (closed Wednesday and Thursday) and you will need a sticker to get in. Stickers can be obtained at the Department of Public Works on Route 53 in Hanover (just before the Salvation Army). In addition to disposing of trash and recyclable items check out the “Dump Store” for a take it or leave it area for useful, working household items, toys, furniture etc. 6. Visit the websites for Hanover sports programs for kids. Visit Hanover Youth Athletic Association for information on Football, Cheerleading, Fall and Spring Soccer, Basketball, Baseball and Softball – www.hyaa.net. Learn all about the ever-popular Hanover Hockey program at www.hanoverhockey.com. Find out about boys and girls Lacrosse programs at www.hanoverlax.org. 7. If you are interested in scouting for your kids check out these websites for Boy Scouting in Hanover www.packsonline.com/ma/37/ and www.packsonline.com/ma/39/. If you are interested in Girl Scouts for girls in Kindergarten and older contact Sarah Cleary the Hanover Service Unit Registrar for at clearyds@msn.com or visit www.hanovergirlscouts.webs.com 8. Sign up with Cathy Harder-Bernier at “Around Town on the Web”. Cathy is our local “town crier” and community service volunteer who sends out all kinds of emails weekly about events happening around Hanover.
